Hello~ Happy Spring!!! Amidst the rain here in Oakland, and the tightening of the national pocketbook, artists are still creating! With that said…I'm still trying to finish my first CD! But I still need money to do it! There are great opportunities for independent artists these days. I am able to produce my own album, therefore having complete artistic freedom, offering real, uninhibited, and non-commercial art. I'm asking for donations to finally complete this project. The total cost of the project will be around $5,000 (I hope). Whatever you can give is so appreciated! For the kindness of a gift of $35, you will receive a CD as soon as they are done. For a donation of $50, you will receive a CD and free admission to my CD release party, or to the first concert that is performed in your area. For a donation of $100 or more, all of the above, and you will be given honorary mention as a "primary financial supporter" inside the CD cover… About the project...The Cd is called Lilith Returns: Songs of a Jewish Priestess. This has been a long and challenging commitment. Thousands of years in the makin' I'll tell ya... The music is predominantly about my journey as a priestess, especially in relationship to the earth and to ancestral middle eastern goddesses. Weaving together what I have seen in the past, what I experience everyday as I move through this world, and what my hopes are for the future. This album, expresses many levels of feeling and spiritual experience. The anger about environmental devastation and oppressive mythology. The longing for a free and healthy earth. The seeking for a Mother Goddess within my own heritage. The grief, fear, and excitement of unveiled history, received through vision, dreamtime, memory and study… And the cave that one goes into to vision and dream... This project is about the honoring of the journey into the deeply forested places, into the mountains, into the rivers and oceans, into the wild places, into the realms of magic. It is about the journey into the shadow of the soul. The journey into the dark, hidden places. Into the rich, thick, muddy, real and sensual earth body. The descent. The journey into the wound and the way we return to wholeness. This is a journey into the places where light is flowing. Where community with others is realized and the past heals. Where knowing oneself as divine is celebrated. Where knowing oneself as part of nature is the reality, both the joy of this, and the pain of this. Where there is the discovery of the divine as sacred lover... It is my journeys, my travels and explorations within myself, across the country, through time, and with other's along the way. It is my growing up and my becoming, a deeper sense of my spirit embodied. I find great compassion and spiritual understanding when I begin to experience the personal as the universal. This is why I sing. I believe that we are one body making choices. So, if what I write, to paraphrase Saul Williams, strikes a chord in you, it's because you thought it, and I just wrote it down. The music itself has been described as deeply moving, multi-dimensional, and like taking a journey. It becomes ethereal, yet maintains deep roots. It explores dimensions of the hauntingly mystical. It branches out into punk rock that "gives you hope". It weaves into songs of lands that my soul has known. It is in a constant process of growing... My prayer is that the music that I offer, will provide healing and sanctuary for the soul to find a deeper place of understanding and wholeness. My intention as an artist is to help re-establish a more relational nature between art, community, and daily life.
